Serena Williams is a great many things. Aside from being a pro tennis player, the 23 Grand Slam title-holder is also a mother, a wife, and a businesswoman.

Despite having all these responsibilities, she still seems to be on top of things.

That’s all thanks to two ‘non-negotiable’ habits that she practices to stay productive whether it’s tournament season or not.

Zoning Out

Aside from putting the work in regularly working out and eating healthy, the 38-year-old athlete makes sure to set some time everyday just to turn her brain off.

Admitting how this practice may seem weird, Williams explains that it helps her to not have to think about anything from time to time given how much she works in and out of the tennis court.

Thus, no matter what’s on her schedule, she finds ways to ‘zone out’ either through meditation or simply watching something on the television.

As for her program choice, she says she goes for shows that are fun and silly or one that doesn’t really have to do with anything.

Doing so is certainly a needed break from managing her investment vehicle Serena Ventures and various other businesses.

Clearing Her Mind

Another way she can clear her mind is putting her attention to her two-year-old daughter Alexis Olympia, who she shares with investor husband Alexis Ohanian.

According to Williams, having Alexis Olympia really helps her ‘focus on the moment’ and not mind other things.

She shares about purposefully doing this whenever she feels the need to just shut off for a while.

Fortunately, it seems like this strategy is working well for the busy mother as she gets to reset and become more energized to train or work again after doing so.

Staying Hydrated

Aside from decongesting her mind from the many things she has to think about every day, Williams also makes a habit of staying hydrated.

This means drinking at least a gallon of water (about 16 cups) daily whether or not she’s training. And it looks like she’s onto something as dehydration can actually make a person feel sluggish or tired.

Medical professionals recommend people to drink around four to six cups of water in general. Intake may vary depending on an individual’s level of activity though.

The tennis star may need more of the liquid than the average Joe as she tends to do physically taxing activities for hours on end regularly.
