Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s decision to leave their posts as senior royals involves them becoming more financially independent, especially from the royal family, who previously funded their lifestyle. Thus, it’s now become a topic of interest whether or not the couple can immediately afford to continue living the same kind of life as they make the move to Canada without their royal titles

The Couple’s Net Worth

The couple reportedly has a combined net worth of $30 million. Majority of this is Prince Harry’s inheritance from his late mother Princess Diana and an annual allowance from his father Prince Charles.

It remains uncertain how much of this $25 million fortune came from the crown though. Meanwhile, Markle herself has an estimated $5 million to her name thanks to her previous career as an actress.

This said it looks like the couple is off to a great start towards their journey to financial independence.

But things may not be as great as they seem, especially considering how much money goes into their various expenses. In the end, it may take more than what they currently have to maintain their lifestyle.

Living Expenses

The couple is reportedly staying temporarily at a $14 million mansion on Vancouver Island.

For starters, Prince Harry has stated that he’s looking to have another child with Markle. When the time comes, their family can grow to have four members leading to additional expenses. If the former ‘Suits’ star does the same baby shower and baby preps for another child, it looks like the couple would be splurging on something like Markle’s $200,000 Manhattan baby shower and a ‘baby moon’ worth $43,000.

There’s also the accommodations expenses that might double now that they’re splitting their time between North America and the United Kingdom. They’ve previously spent $3.8 million on renovating their former home alone. In fact, they reportedly spent $60,000 on just adding features like fireplaces and a green-energy unit alone.

Extravagant Tastes
